Ayrshire woman dies after being hit by coach

AN ELDERLY woman, who was walking along a busy road, has died after being hit by a coach.

AN ELDERLY woman, who was walking along a busy road, has died after being hit by a coach.

The woman was struck by the vehicle on the A77 near to its junction with Maybole Road, Maybole, Ayrshire, at about 5:30 yesterday afternoon.

No-one on the coach was injured in the collision.

Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses following the fatal crash.

Officers are also trying to establish how the women got onto the road and whether or not she fell in front of the coach.

The women, who has not yet been identified, was wearing black trousers, a blue fleece type jacket and black shoes. She was 5ft 5in tall.

A police spokesman said they were appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the woman on the A77 near to Maybole Road prior to the crash to contact them.

A police spokesman said: “No one on the coach was injured.”
