£43m fire training centre is opened in Cambuslang
A £43 MILLION training centre for firefighters which features a mock town where they can practise tackling burning buildings, road accidents and train crashes, has been officially opened.
The Uaill facility in Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire aims to provide training scenarios in a realistic environment.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue chief officer Brian Sweeney said the facility was already paying off.
He added: “Several months ago a crew of retained Strathclyde firefighters were first on the scene of a serious road accident in Ayrshire, where a motorist was trapped beneath an overturned car.
“The crew had dealt with exactly that scenario at Uaill only a week before and were immediately able to put into practice a specialist procedure to safely free the man.”
