Scottish independence: SNP hasn’t told international players plans for independence
THE SNP has failed to inform key international bodies such as Nato, the European Union and the IMF about its post independence plans, it was reported yesterday.
Ministers have yet to spell out the plans for security and trade for an independent Scotland, raising fears about defence and economic development.
The UK currently has a seat at the top table of organisations such as Nato, the EU and IMF.
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie warned that an independent Scotland would not automatically be handed membership.
He said: “The SNP has no clear plan for an independent Scotland. Alex Salmond seems to believe everything he demands will be accepted be the rest of the world.” A Scottish government spokesman said: “The Scottish government will publish a White Paper in November 2013 that will set out ministers’ detailed and positive proposals for independence.”
