Same-sex marriage: Sturgeon eases schools’ fears
The new gay-marriage laws will not restrict the freedom of Catholic schools to educate pupils in line with the Church’s doctrine that marriage is between a man and woman.
Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said yesterday that the Scottish Government would even look at the need for the new laws to include provisions that will “protect religious beliefs of parents and teachers”.
Ms Sturgeon said: “The current situation in Scotland is that the faith content of the curriculum in denominational, which in Scotland is obviously Catholic, schools is determined by the Catholic Education Service.
“We don’t intend to change that,” she added.
