Jayne Baxter sworn in as newest MSP

Holyrood’s newest MSP has been sworn in.

Jayne Baxter took the solemn affirmation, a secular version of the oath, in front of her new colleagues as a representative for Mid Scotland and Fife.

She replaces John Park, who left last week for a senior post in the trade union movement.

As the next Labour candidate on the regional list for the 2011 elections, Ms Baxter was automatically appointed to the seat without a by-election.

The Fife councillor was a UK parliamentary assistant to former prime minister Gordon Brown’s Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath constituency.
