Fears for pensions over independence
a VOTE for Scottish independence could “wreak havoc” on pensions in Scotland, a leading Edinburgh firm of pension experts has warned.
There is “growing alarm” over the potential impact of independence on the Scottish pensions system, claims financial actuaries Punter Southall, which run more than 225,000 UK occupational pension schemes.
Gerry Devenney, principal at Punter Southall’s Edinburgh office, said there had been a “marked upturn” in concerns related to independence by clients north of the Border.
An SNP spokesman said: “Independence gives Scotland the fiscal powers to have more competitive corporate tax compared to the rest of the UK, which would bring jobs and HQ functions to Scotland.”
