Zoo rehoming

It was no surprise to learn that Edinburgh Zoo plans to cut its number of animals.

For decades we have been asking zoos to neuter their animals, stop breeding them and let them die out naturally instead of creating surplus animals which are very difficult to re-home and sometimes are simply put down.

I hope Edinburgh Zoo spends time finding suitable homes for any animals it relocates and doesn’t do what it did to Minty, the polar bear cub, who was sent off to a Victorian-era enclosure in Antwerp Zoo.

As part of their training, zoo bosses should be made to watch the advert about animals being for life and not just for Christmas.

You cannot just dump them when they go out of fashion.
