Wrong track

The line in your report on the Edinburgh tram project (24 February) stating: “SNP councillors who performed a major U-turn last year to rescue the tram project when it was on the verge of cancellation …” is incorrect.

At no time was the project under threat of cancellation from other parties. The threat was that the line may be terminated at Haymarket from the airport, which Labour and the Conservatives tried to do. We only stepped in to ensure that at the very least the line should go to St Andrew Square as termination at Haymarket was risible and a further “bloody nose” to the people of Edinburgh.

At the same time, cancellation was no longer a viable option and was not placed on the table for consideration by any of the political groups on the city of Edinburgh Council.
