Winter waste

I NOTE that some councils complaining about lack of money and the necessity to begin charging for blue disabled permits are still pouring money into larger “super-gritters”, which can carry even more salt.

Their four axles, coupled with their sheer weight, will cause additional damage to roads, resulting in further repair costs. Already, this early in winter, I see roads that were repaired and resurfaced in the summer are once again full of pot holes. There is a simple solution: stop spreading salt and incurring all the related expenses and, instead, make it compulsory to fit winter tyres on all vehicles. I was under the impression the easiest way to save money was not to spend it.
