I Am intrigued by Brian Allan’s letter (19 July), in particular the mention of foisting “further unnecessary liberalisation on society”. Would Brian like to elaborate further on what exactly he thinks the result of this “unnecessary liberalisation” would be?
The truth of the matter is that things will continue much as they did before for the majority of society. The upside, however, is that homosexuals who want to – many may not – would be able to have their relationship recognised in the same way as a heterosexual couple.
Equality is a vital part of any society and should be central to Scotland’s future. There has been much unnecessary legislation pushed through by the SNP since it came to power, however, this change should be seen as a demonstration of SNP intent – equality for all.

“This micro-minority has caused large-scale misery for many,” says the Rev Dr Robert Anderson (Letters, 20 July) in what is surely a contender for the most crass and bigoted statement of the 21st century.
This micro-minority, which is not so micro as alleged, has been the victim of centuries of abuse and human rights violations at the hands of Christians, on the basis of a line in their sacred text that says all homosexuals should be put to death. All in the name of the love of God, of course.
The Reverend Dr should be grateful that gay people are merely seeking equality in how their loving relationships are recognised in society.

So MANY people are using their religion to argue against certain people who are in love getting married. It doesn’t seem very Christian to me.
