Vote for NHS
As Peter Swain writes (Letters, 12 November), about Alistair Darling’s recent speech, there is no direct connection between Scots being £500 per head better off with independence and the Barnett Formula, but without independence if the UK government cuts expenditure on the National Health Service in England, as it is seeking to do, Barnett consequentials will reduce the money available in Scotland.
So a vote for independence is one to protect Scotland’s NHS.
R Mill Irving (Letters, same day) should not decry Morris dancing, jellied eels and cricket. Morris dancing goes well to bagpipe music. And though we do not usually jelly our eels, we do catch and eat them in Scotland. And some Scots play cricket – for fun.
