Unhealthy legacy
I regret that David Martin (Letters, 1 February) feels that I misunderstood his views on Mrs Thatcher’s legacy. Readers of the correspondence can judge for themselves.
That legacy reminds me of the term “antipagandist”, coined by the late Oliver Brown for those who convert others to the opposite point of view from themselves.
While I am glad that Mrs Thatcher converted many Scots to the cause of Scottish self-government, as a doctor and a patient I feel that one of her worse legacies was the privatisation of hospital cleaning.
This was a major contributor to the deterioration of both hygiene and morale in hospitals.
