It was a brave decision for the SPL members to refuse to admit Rangers newco to the Scottish Premier League given the financial ramifications over TV deals and the pulling power that even a new “Rangers” in that league would have had (your report, 17 July).

It seems that the need to maintain sporting integrity with, in some cases, a smidgen of vindictiveness won the day.

However, it is now apparent that the possible loss of massive TV money is dawning on some supporters and managers alike, with the prospect of some clubs hitting the financial buffers.

Surely if turkeys vote for Christmas at least some of them can expect to end up on the  dinner plate!
