Road sense
THE rebuilt M9 junction opened yesterday at a cost of £25 million. I have been passing though it daily for the past 13 years and never had any significant delays, so what is the point of it?
The money would have been far better spent on relieving a dozen pinch points around the capital, including a proper lead-in to the A8 at Newbridge or eliminating the roundabout at Sheriffhall.
The west-bound junction is three miles longer than going through Newton, so there will be no time saving there, and little relief for the inhabitants of that village. And it will be even further to travel to the new Forth crossing.
Perhaps the road planners intend that the tax-take on the extra fuel used will pay for it?
