The death of veteran news correspondent Marie Colvin and the French photographer in Syria during a government bombardment underlines the dangers faced by these people to bring us news and pictures of some of the world’s worst atrocities.

When looking at news reports on television and reading items in newspapers, one tends to forget that these people put their lives on the line almost every day.

Marie Colvin’s death brought home the harsh realities.
