Phone nuisances

If Dennis Grattan (Letters, 19 February) believes that registering with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) will make any difference to the number of irritating calls he receives, he has been misled.

Some time ago I made a complaint to the TPS and received a letter and complaint form.

The small print informed me that the TPS is operated by an
association of telephone marketing companies.

In other words, it is just a front organisation whose function is to provide an illusion of regulation but allow these unnecessary companies to go on abusing the telephone system to make public nuisances of themselves.
