Nicer noises

like your correspondent, ­Laurence Miele (Letters, 6 ­November 2012), I was in St ­Andrew Square on Saturday late in the afternoon.

Unlike him, I enjoyed the 
experience: the absence of motor noise gave space to the sound of hundreds of pedestrians, their footsteps and conversations, as well as the odd street musician.

This novel soundscape had a very pleasant effect on me. ­Judging by the relaxed voices of my fellow shoppers and flaneurs, I was not alone.
