Natural disaster

IT IS all very well spending £500,000 of petty cash from the public purse on arty projects but will light displays, al fresco poetry readings and craft workshops stop tourists noticing that the Scottish Government is actively encouraging the denigration of our coastal environment and the wider marine ecosystem through the massive expansion of fish farming, the associated shooting of seals and the continued overfishing of wild fish stocks? (Your report, 29 January.)

Why not rename this lacklustre initiative the “Last Year of Natural Scotland” rather than the “Year of Natural Scotland” and impart on visitors the real sense of urgency which the government in Holyrood fails to recognise when it comes to protecting natural Scotland?
