Muddied waters
Readers who have followed this correspondence will know that it arose out of a Scotsman report (31 July) that a group of tourist organisations was petitioning the Scottish Government to take action about the deteriorating marine environment.
I wrote (Letters, 1 August) to support this initiative, while drawing attention to the government’s deplorable record in this area.
Dr Jaffa has unfortunately used the privilege of The Scotsman’s columns on two occasions to muddy the waters by giving vent to his views on angling that are irrelevant to the matter in hand.
His latest contribution, about access to rivers (Letters, 6 August), not only bears no logical relation to anything I have written but also offensively attributes to me views that I have never expressed and do not hold.
This digression is disappointing. Attention needs to be focussed on the pollution of Scotland’s coastal waters by salmon farms, which should be a matter of immense concern to anglers and non-anglers alike.
