Letter: Getting on with it

THE gay MP, Ben Bradshaw, has said that London’s political elites are “playing pure politics” on the issue of gay marriage.

It has been argued that the main motivation for this proposed legislation is “picking a fight with the church”.

I do not believe this is the main motivation of Scottish politicians who are minded to go down this legislative route.

What undoubtedly is a principle motive, however, is to assure Westminster that Holyrood is “progressive and enlightened” also.

Scotland has no need to impress Westminster on this or any other issue.

The SNP government must now put aside this and any other diversions and get on without distraction with the massive task of winning the independence referendum.
