Lack of courtesy

WHY is it that in this age of 
paperless job vacancy procedures, when applicants for jobs are required to submit their 
applications, CVs, etc via the 
internet, that unsuccessful interviewees are very often denied the courtesy of notification of their application failure? Surely
paperless doesn’t mean without politeness. I have known many instances in which those 
attending interviews are on edge for days afterwards awaiting an e-mail, a phone call, or even 
ordinary mail, informing them of the result of their job application. No wonder there is widespread suspicion of nepotism.
