Horse sense

While it is obviously annoying that the Trade Descriptions Act is breached by the fact that some varieties of beef burger do not in fact contain 100 per cent beef, but also a percentage of horsemeat (plus the usual additives), what is truly criminal is that perfectly good food is being destroyed for no valid reason.

Rather than this, would it not have been possible for the supermarkets involved to give it away free to charities and other agencies that feed the poor and homeless? It is not certain that they, nor those they help, would quibble about whether the meat was beef or horse.
