Gung-ho Harry
For people like Lindsey German, Stop the War’s ultra-left convener and former Respect candidate for mayor of London, members of our Royal Family can do no right (your report, 23 January).
If they show reserve they are deemed unfeeling but if, like Prince Harry, truly his mother’s son, they speak openly they are condemned for a lack of tact.
Prince Harry has never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the canteen and much of his charm comes from his robust – occasionally laddish – approach to life.
I admire him for putting his life at risk on the front line and what he said to the cameras is what any young soldier would say if a microphone was stuck in his face.
Tuesday’s editorial rightly pointed out that the bien pensant who insist on “humanitarian” intervention appear to have no idea what such intervention actually entails.

I was disgusted by the media reports of the interview with HRH Prince Harry, and accompanying Rambo-esque pictures in some newspapers, in which he appeared casually to confirm that he had killed enemy insurgents in battle.
Apart from the fact that this will be a red rag to a bull as far as the Taleban is concerned, his commanding officer should inform him that soldiers speak about these matters only with comrades, close friends and family, if at all.
