GMC arrogance

David Cameron and Jeremy Hunt have both asked why the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and General Medical Council (GMC) have so far failed to strike off the register any of the nurses and doctors involved in the Mid-Staffordshire Foundation NHS Trust scandal.

The GMC took seven and a half years to implement the independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service after the Shipman inquiry. How many other recommendations from the Shipman inquiry are still to be implemented? Unfortunately, both the NMC and GMC suffer from institutionalised arrogance. In both cases this is a chronic condition, with an
accompanying poor prognosis.

Patients deserve better nursing care, nurses deserve better regulation.
