Game’s a bogey
It is no longer possible to take Scottish participation in rugby, either international or domestic, seriously. Say what you like: we Scots are well acquainted with the meaning of ignominy; in fact we probably invented it.
The same is true of our modern-day football exponents, who, if they tried just that wee bit harder, could make a fortune with their reprise of Laurel and Hardy’s antics.
The real mystery is why the international control authorities still persist with invitations to the Scots to participate against the big boys. With the pathetic perennial absence of dedicated skills, team spirit and pride, maybe there is only laughter left to provide redemption.
Not until shipbuilding, steelworks and coal mining make a comeback will we ever see their likes again. Here’s tae us, wha’s like us? Gie few an’ they’re a’ deid.
