Fiscal madness

FOLLOWING the United Nations brokered deal in Doha, attended by Secretary for Climate Change Ed Davey, reports that our government is to commit billions of pounds of taxpayers’ money to help poor third world countries avert the effects of climate is quite baffling.

Our nation is in horrendous debt, the science of anthropogenic global warming is very far from settled, global warming has not been observed for well over a decade and evidence linking adverse climatic events to it is entirely speculative and disputed.

As Pericles warned in ancient Greece: “Who the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.” Are we now thus fated? No, we are already gravely disturbed if we allow our borrowed assets to be used in this way based on individual politicians’ prejudice based on scientific conjecture.
