Although the Black Watch is indeed, or nowadays was, one of Scotland’s famous regiments it ill behoves Scotland’s national newspaper to claim it is Scotland’s most famous regiment (your report, 18 December).

To claim that it is more famous than, for example, the Gordons, Seaforths, King’s Own Scottish Borderers etc is purely subjective and should not be put in print without suitable qualification… or are we not a’ Jock Tamson’s bairns?
