Fair’s fair, ladies
According to Stanley McWhirter (Letters, 19 November), in my letter (18 November) I confused fairness with equality. In fact, it is Mr McWhirter who has confused my tongue-in-cheek mischief with serious argument.
I was somewhat disappointed that no incandescent ladies rose to my bait, but perhaps they perceived what Mr McWhirter did not.
Nevertheless, I adhere to my final point, which was serious: that women want to pick and choose where, and where not, to be granted equality. Prize money equal to that of men in ladies’ tennis is a classic example.
