English outrage

Jim Stamper (Letters, 20 February) refers to the self-respect of English people. I can envisage no situation in which the people of England would have allowed their parliament to have been closed down for 300 years, with all matters affecting England being decided in Scotland, meekly accepted the squandering of their oil wealth, and permitted their waters to be infested with weapons of mass destruction against their expressed wishes.

There would have been an
uprising long ago throughout England’s green and pleasant land if such things had come to pass, and quite right too.
