A far more serious concern with part-time workers (your report, 24 January) is the fact that many of them do not earn enough to pay National Insurance contributions. This is 
creating a future pension deficit of previously unimaginable 
proportions, with terrifying consequences for both the 
individuals and the pension system as a whole, regardless of how many reforms take place in the future. This is a situation that so far appears to have been ignored but which will have dire consequences if unaddressed.
