Club out of touch

Comet, Jessops, HMV and now Blockbuster: the chain stores are falling like ninepins. There is clearly going to be a superfluity of vacant commercial premises, and it would be foolish to add to the stock.

Yet the Edinburgh Accies rugby club want to build a street-worth of large retail units to fund their grandiose pipedreams of sporting glory.

They were warned by the Cockburn Association in June last year that the current
economic climate and the online shopping trend might leave them high and dry.

But they ignored the advice and submitted a planning application which is flawed.

Do they need to see the branch of Blockbuster on the opposite side of Comely Bank Road close down before good sense prevails?
