Christian life

Michael Kelly wrote well on the rise of secular intolerance in the name of “equality” (Perspective, 22 November).

The case of Adrian Smith,
demoted for opposing same-sex “marriage”, is outrageous but, I fear, a taste of things to come. Aggressive campaigning groups are keen to label all dissent from homosexual orthodoxy as “homophobia”, and to exclude such voices from public and
professional life.

If such groups were on the fringe of national life, the threat to freedom of speech that they pose would be less concerning. But government-funded gay rights charities are a powerful part of the establishment.

In some countries, confession of Christian belief can lead to loss of employment. Much to the chagrin of some extremists, Scotland is not yet one of them.
