CfE bound to fail

At LAST! The Scotsman (2 November) contained a sensible, well thought-out comment on the disaster that is Curriculum for Excellence (CfE).

Carole Ford has voiced clearly and succinctly what so many teachers have been thinking since the “very large, very shiny, green folders” arrived on desks.

Of course CfE is narrowing and dumbing down the curriculum; of course literacy and numeracy should have been laid at the doors of primary schools, not secondary, when it is too late.

Of course the aims and objectives are completely wide open to interpretation, being so vague; of course you will find no mention of rigour and high standards in CfE.

I can only agree with Carole Ford that CfE will not achieve the very thing it set out to –
excellence.
