I despair at the apparent ineptitude of some of our government ministers. Conservative ministers were reportedly warned about horsemeat entering the food chain two years ago and did nothing (your report,  18 February).

Ministers in the last Labour government were warned about the abnormally high numbers of deaths in the Mid Staffs hospital and did nothing.

Our politicians talk a good game and make promises, but when they get important jobs to do they seem to become divorced from the real world and act like headless chickens advised by incompetent civil servants.
