If Humza Yousaf, the SNP international development minister, intends that Scotland should give hundreds of millions of pounds of foreign aid to countries such as Malawi after independence (your report,  14 January) it may not be necessary after all for President Joyce Banda of Malawi to sell the presidential jet and the government fleet of Mercedes cars.

An independent Scotland could be good news for some at least.
