Afghanistan exit

The recent assessment made of the situation in Afghanistan by Paddy Ashdown (your report, 17 November) is worryingly accurate and should be heeded by the government with consideration given to accelerating the withdrawal of troops before the 2014 deadline.

There is absolutely no advantage in staying in Afghanistan a day longer than needed as the situation will just get worse, and what gains have been made will not be improved on.

David Cameron should
listen carefully to what Paddy Ashdown says as his
experience in these matters is
extensive, and invaluable advice to save British troops’ lives
must not be ignored.
