You quote Harriet Harman commenting on the former Labour government’s gambling liberalisation (6 August).

She, as an MP, gets letters saying: “It’s ruined my life, it’s ruined my family, it’s really dangerous and the problem is it’s getting worse and that’s why we need the law to be changed.”

Ms Harman is then further quoted as saying: “Well, I think we were wrong, we have made a mistake and we need to do something about it.”

Could any of us who are strongly opposed to the redefining of marriage imagine reading these same words, not too many years down the line?
