From the archives: Scottish Freemasonry; 6 August, 1948

IT WAS reported at a meeting of the Grand Lodge of Scotland in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon – the Earl of Galloway, Grand Master Mason, presiding – that a loyal address had been submitted to Their Majesties on the occasion of their silver wedding and that an acknowledgment had been received.

The address conveyed most hearty congratulations, and recalled with gratitude and pride that His majesty was graciously pleased to accept the office of Grand Master Mason of Scotland in the bicentenary year of Grand Lodge, and thereby confer a unique distinction on the Order. It was also reported that His Majesty in returning thanks to the Grand Master Mason for the silver wedding gift from the members of Grand Lodge stated: “We appreciate and admire the present itself which you have so skilfully chosen, but even more do we value the kindness and loyalty of Scottish Freemasons which prompted the gift and of which it will always remind us.”
