From the archive: MPs answer covenant questions, 28 July, 1950
Replies are beginning to come in to the questionnaire distributed on behalf of the National Covenant Committee to Mr Atlee, Mr Churchill, and all Scottish members of Parliament.
So far ten replies have been received. On Mr Churchill’s behalf, intimation is made that he is giving consideration to the questionnaire and will shortly give his answers. A variety of answers to the questionnaire’s four points have been made by the Scottish MPs who have so far replied. Those who have indicated without reservation that they would accept the Covenant if signed by a majority of electors as sufficient evidence that the majority of people in Scotland desire a Scottish Parliament, are: Mr John Rankin, MP for Tradeston, Glasgow; Mr John McGovern MP; lvor Shettleston, Glasgow; Mr AJP Macdonald, MP for Roxburgh and Selkirk; and Mr J Grimond, MP for Orkney and Shetland.
