Vatican deadline for pope’s butler

The Vatican says it will announce its decision on Monday on whether to order the pope’s butler to stand trial for the theft and leaking of secret documents.

Paolo Gabriele was arrested on 23 May, so far the only person ensnared in a criminal investigation. His lawyers said he has fully co-operated with the investigation, and that they would be ready to face a trial if Gabriele is indicted.
