Serbia on ‘right track’ despite stance on Kosovo

Serbia’s candidacy for European Union membership shows the country is on “the right track” after years of wars and isolation, president Boris Tadic said yesterday.

“This is a great day for our country,” Mr Tadic said in a televised address a day after EU leaders formally made Serbia a candidate for entry.

Mr Tadic added that Serbia will never recognise the independence of Kosovo, even though it is ready to continue key talks with its former province for the sake of further EU integration.
