Pilot tests positive for crystal meth

AN INDONESIAN pilot was arrested after testing positive for crystal meth (methamphetamine).

The 44-year-old works for Lion Air – whose slogan is “We make you fly”.

He was taken into custody, just hours before he was due to pilot a scheduled flight, at a hotel in Surabaya, Indonesia’s second city, on Saturday.

His plane was due to take hundreds of passengers to Makassar on Sulawesi island, before heading to Balikpapan on Borneo then returning to Surabaya.

He is the second pilot to test positive for drugs while working for Lion Air this year.

Crystal meth is an illegal stimulant known as “shabu-shabu” in Indonesia.

Last year it overtook marijuana as the number one drug in Indonesia, a country of 240 million people, a senior narcotics agency official revealed.
