New vice–president chosen by military

A FORMER head of military intelligence has been nominated to become a vice-president of Burma. Myint Swe is to fill the job that Tin Aung Myint Oo vacated earlier this month for health reasons.

The military has the right to name one of Burma’s two vice-presidents. Mr Swe was believed to have been close to former dictator Than Shwe.
