PIP implant campaigners slate Sturgeon
THE Scottish health secretary has been criticised by victims of the PiP breast implant scandal for failing to back their calls for a public inquiry.
The PiP Implants Scotland campaign group accused Nicola Sturgeon of “denying them answers”, saying she had not supported their request for an inquiry.
Spokeswoman for the PiP Implants Scotland campaign group, Trisha Devine, said: “We’re pretty surprised by Nicola Sturgeon’s response.
“We were hoping for support in our efforts to find out what happened and make sure this never happens again. The least we’re owed is a transparent, independent and full public inquiry into this nightmare.”
A Scottish Government spokeswoman said: “This is a UK-wide issue and we have already made clear that UK-wide reviews – which will include Scotland – are under way. Following the reviews we will take forward any recommendations that are relevant for Scotland.”

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 09:11 PMThis is seemingly a EU wide issue. If the NHS Scotland paid for the implant then the NHS Scotland should take care of the implant to be removed. Otherwise the NHS Scotland has got nothing to do with it.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 02:27 PMWell aware of the risks??????????? The risk being that these implants contain industrail grade silicone? I dont think so. Any operation carries a risk, of course it does, ruptures etc are risks. A "RISK" is not that the implant has one shell and cannot contain the rancid silicone and will allow it to seep into lymph nodes etc... these women DO NOT want the NHS to clear up the mess... they want the private clinics to sort it. Will they? Of course not... they cannot claim their insurance to do so! This article has nothing to do with PIP VICTIMS asking for NHS bail out... they want answers. I would hate to think what the familes of these women are going through worrying about what harn this silicone is doing to their loved ones... ask them to have restraint???? Clearly none of you people are in this position? The Scottish Govts silence on the matter, in my opinion, has been shocking.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 01:16 PMI'm astonished that these people have the brass neck to complain about this. These implants were made in France and authorised for use in England, there are inquiries in hand. Why do they want money wasted in Scotland for no good reason? Perhaps its time for Scotlands NHS to wash its hands of them, let them sue the private surgeons who implanted the damned things.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 12:35 PMSo, women who've had boob-jobs done privately expect the Scottish Government to arrange for a Public Inquiry into this, while at the same time the rest of the UK is investigating this very issue? A bit of duplication here, I would say?

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:16 AMIf they were for vanity hard luck and cough up the readies to have them replaced. If you got them via the NHS i'm sure they will be replaced at public expense.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 07:58 AM#1 Edinburghman. l agree with your comment that it has nothing to do with the NHS. What you have to look at is the number of woman's magazines that promoted this operation as a desirable surgical alteration to the female figure. It is unfortunately yet another obscenity introduced by big business.

Friday, February 10, 2012 at 07:47 AMIt's a UK wide issue. The health parts of the Scottish Government will have been canvased for their views which will have been endorsed by Sturgeon, along with the other health cab secs of devolved admins. The UK government have made it clear they are leading on this. Does the work need to be doubled and thusly the expenditure? Those that are in line to get compensation and surgery, will do so from a Westmisnter pot of cash. Please have some restraint, people are working hard to ensure you get the necessary treatment and compensation.
A Voice of Reason
Friday, February 10, 2012 at 06:29 AMThis is a UK wide issue not a Scottish one. I get really annoyed that most of these women had implants for vanity reasons. Nothing wrong with that but they were well aware of risks. Now its for the clinics they went to who must sort this out not the NHS. And really "slating Ms Sturgeon" for this is hardly seems fair or reasonable is it? Take some personal responsibility for your actions ladies. Go to the clinic who put in these implants and ask them to investigate and why they chose them. Lets not waste tax payers money on public inquiries.
