What matters to me: Chris Dugdale, magician

CHRIS Dugdale on being a breakfast waiter, A-Ha, and his fantasy dinner guests

Who would attend your fantasy dinner party and what would you eat?

My family, friends, the Obamas, the Pope, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Sean Connery and Michael Jackson. We would sort out religion and politics, then have great after-dinner entertainment. On the menu there would be grilled salt and pepper prawns, followed by steak frites and Eton mess.

Whom did you last text and what was the message? My great friend Dave the Rave. I was asking about my job as best man at his forthcoming wedding.

It’s not cool but... A-ha were the best live band of the last 20 years.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Practise makes permanent, so make sure to practise the right way.

What’s the worst job you ever had?

Breakfast waiter. Getting up at 5:30am is not my thing.

Who is your favourite fictional character?

James Bond.

What are you afraid of?

The US healthcare system.

Did you have a nickname growing up?

CJD but then when mad cow disease came along that sort of stopped.

What situations make you lose your temper?

I hate arrogant people.

If you could choose a profession that you would like to try, what would that be? Why?

Acting.

What food or drink is always in your fridge?

Cheese.

If you could change something about yourself, what would it be?

In an ideal world I would have less of an addictive personality.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go?

Rome. Having seen it in the present I am fascinated.

Saturday night or Sunday morning?

Saturday. I love going out and partying.

Who is the love of your life?

My wife Alexis. She is my rock.
