Celtic to be crowned champions and Hearts demoted within days - reports

It is reported that the clubs are in agreement that the league won’t restart

Celtic are to be crowned Ladbrokes Premiership champions for the ninth season running, with Hearts demoted to the Championship in the coming days.

According to the Daily Record, the 12 top-flight clubs reached a unanimous decision after some confusion.

It has been expected that the Premiership would follow the Championship, League One and League Two. The lower leagues have already been terminated on a points-per-game basis.

The SPFL’s resolution presented to clubs last month and passed, set a precedent for the top tier to be concluded in the same manner.

The league body have until May 25 to inform Uefa of the plans to finish the Premiership.

Uefa recommended league associations around Europe to conclude their season, but offered caveats if that wasn’t possible.

The Bundesliga is starting up this weekend with other divisions set to follow suit. The English Premier League hope to start up again in June.

The Netherlands and France have already seen their leagues concluded with no football to take place for a sustained period.

Clubs from the Premiership, plus Dundee United, discussed the future of the 2019-2020 campaign in a call on Friday where league reconstruction was also on the agenda.

Any changes to the leagues were scrapped but it was agreed that the league wouldn’t be played to a conclusion.

The Daily Report report that confusion ensued, however, with the minutes recording that a consensus had been reached rather than a unanimous decision which is what is understood to have happened.
