School reopens after asbestos scare
A SCOTTISH primary school which was closed after asbestos was found in the building will re-open on Monday, it has been confirmed.
Pupils at Edinburgh’s Flora Stevenson Primary, in the Stockbridge area of the capital, were evacuated on Thursday after the substance was discovered in the walls during routine work.
Yesterday, Edinburgh City Council confirmed the school would re-open after thorough, independent tests were carried out on the building.
A full clean of the school has taken place in preparation for the pupils’ return. Mike Rosendale, the council’s head of school, said: “We are now satisfied after rigorous testing that Flora Stevenson’s Primary School is safe and ready to be reopened.
“I would like to thank all of the staff at the school for their prompt response and assistance over the last few days.”
