School league tables: ‘Stunning’ show for East Renfrewshire

SCOTLAND’s best-performing council has welcomed its “stunning” results. East Renfrewshire has three schools in the top ten, based on the percentage of pupils gaining three or more Highers.

Williamwood High School in Clarkston came joint fourth with St Ninian’s in Giffnock, while Mearns Castle took seventh position.

A council spokesman said: “The drive to raise attainment has always been the key focus of our education department.

“Early intervention, breaking down barriers to learning, and encouraging and promoting achievement in its widest sense, has helped provide the climate and support to continuously improve standards of attainment.”
