OLYMPIC gold medal-winning rower Katherine Grainger has been honoured by her former university.
She was named Glasgow University’s Young Alumnus of the Year after her victory.
Grainger, 36, who received a Masters in medical law and medical ethics from Glasgow in 2001 after completing a law degree at Edinburgh University, said: “I felt the big focus for me this year would be the Olympics, and winning it was everything I wanted it to be.
“To be awarded this on top makes the year even more special.”
University principal Professor Anton Muscatelli said: “I am constantly impressed by the achievements of Glasgow’s alumni.”
Previous recipients of the award include cyclist Mark Beaumont and singer Emeli Sandé.
Grainger, who is yet to decide whether she will be at the 2016 Games, is close to completing a PhD at King’s College London.
