Diplomats meet minister over language fears
DIPLOMATS have met with the Scottish Government to discuss cuts to the number of foreign language assistants in schools.
Last year it emerged there had been an 80 per cent reduction in native speakers working in Scottish schools amid cuts being made by councils.
Yesterday, minister for learning Alasdair Allan met with the consuls general of France, Germany, Italy and Spain and Austria’s honorary consul.
He said: “We will seek to involve consulates closely in development of our commitment on the 1+2 model for language learning in our schools.”
